Yes, green bean casserole is an institution in the United States. The recipe for the green bean casserole was created in 1955 on the occasion of cooking experiments conducted by the Campbell Soup Company. Their goal was to produce recipes using Campbell’s products to promote their use and increase sales. It has since become one of America’s favorites for the Thanksgiving celebration. This preparation is typical of the American diet of the 1950s, in that it drowns the vegetables in a thick cream sauce.
The green bean casserole can however be more healthier and Vegan when using a homemade white sauce, like the one that we going to prepare in this recipe.
This recipe includes several steps but the steps are very simple and relatively quick. Without further do is the new, ameliorate, and original version of the green been casserole that will blow your mind!
Green Bean Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 bag of chopped frozen green beans
- 1 tbsp. 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1/4 tsp. sea salt
- For the Sauce:
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp. flour
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/3 cup nutritional yeast
- 1/2 tsp. sea salt
- 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a saucepan heat the oil and add onion, cook for 5-8 minutes or until they are starting to brown. Place in a bowl
- In the same saucepan add the almond flour. Cook for 3-5 minutes
- Add the almond flour in the bowl with the onion, mix well.
- In a pot add more oil and the minced garlic and cook for an minute until fragrant, stirring frequently.
- Add the flour and stir to combine.
- Slowly add the vegetable broth, whisking until smooth.
- Add the almond milk, and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened.
- Stir in the nutritional yeast, sea salt, and pepper.
- Add the green beans in a greased baking dish and add the sauce mix to combine.
- Top with the crispy onion.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
